Christmas Tree Care

A fresh Australian Christmas tree will enhance the Christmas feel with a fresh pine fragrance.

To guarantee top quality, all our trees are freshly cut early in the morning on the day of pick-up or delivery, ensuring your tree is as fresh as it can be! Follow these simple steps to keep your Scouts fresh Christmas tree looking vibrant and beautiful throughout the festive season.

Please note that the initial appearance of your tree will depend on the growing conditions, i.e. the weather. Drought conditions mean trees might be smaller than usual and perhaps not as green. Lots of rain results in a bright green lush tree.

We use the same tree supplier year after year but of course Christmas trees are a natural growing product and as with all crops, will be affected by the weather during the growing cycle.

1. Your tree needs water.

Refresh the tree by making a straight cut across the base, taking 2cm off the stump before you place it into a stand with water. This will enable your real Christmas tree to drink water and maintain freshness. Plain water is essential to maintain the turgidity of plant cells and without enough water the tree will become floppy and dry out and the needles will drop too quickly. The trees are fresh and already very healthy and plain water is more than enough, so this year we are not providing nutrient sachets.

2. Use a good quality tree stand.

Place the real Christmas tree in a Cinco Christmas tree stand that can hold plenty of water. Check water level daily and keep topping up. If the water drops below the trunk, the trunk may seal itself with resin and not be able to absorb water and the stump will need to be cut again.

3. Store your tree properly.

If you do not wish to put your tree up immediately, store it in a cool place out of wind and sun in a bucket of water. When your tree is up, keep it out of sunlight or heat so it does not dry out.

The small print...

As it is not possible for us to know whether you have carefully followed these tree care tips, we are unable to refund or replace your Christmas tree if it does not last the full 4 weeks.

If you run into a problem, please email us at hall@northsydneyscouts.org and we will see if we can help.

Thank you
